The Night Birds
The Nightbirds unites musicians from Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music with Nashville-based Amanda Healan and acclaimed musician Lukas Simpson in an exciting collaboration. Peggy Browning (The Pickin’ Bubs, Common Thread), Samantha K. Mills ($11 Supper), Healan ($11 Supper, Clinchfield), and Simpson (Luke AF, FolkyFishFest founder) combine their considerable talents to create a fresh sound rooted in tradition. Each member brings their own musical heritage—from country blues and gospel to contemporary folk—while showcasing a rich tapestry of acoustic sounds on guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukelele, and bass.
Browning is the founder of Celebrating Tradition Community Music Retreat, an annual music retreat open to all levels, where the Nightbirds came together to craft the music you’ll hear Browning has just recorded her debut album, slated for release this year.
Drawing on their deep connections to traditional and contemporary folk music, The Nightbirds’ repertoire spans traditional favorites, reimagined folk classics, and original compositions that demonstrate their commitment to both preserving and evolving acoustic music traditions.
